Abbott05

Mrs. Abbott

Hello! My name is Mrs. Abbott and I am a kindergarten teacher at Eagle Ridge. I have been a teacher for 13 years.  I have taught Title I Reading, first grade and this is my fourth year of kindergarten. I attended Western Illinois University to earn my bachelor’s degree and continued my education at Northern Illinois University.  I am married to a wonderful man and we have a five year old daughter. In my free time I enjoy playing with my daughter, reading, scrap booking and playing volleyball. My greatest passion is my family. My husband and I really enjoy traveling to see them. We really want our daughter to grow up knowing her family.

I believe all children have the right to learn.  I come to school everyday with the motivation to teach my students to their greatest abilities.  I hope to instill in them the love of learning and that learning is fun!

Mrs. Anders

Hi! I am Mrs. Anders.  I’ve been teaching special education since 1983, and have been at Carbon Cliff/ Barstow since 1993. I plan on staying quite a while longer.  Teaching is an exciting adventure every day.  Children keep me young at heart.  It is wonderful to watch kids grow and learn to be responsible, well-mannered, caring people.  My educational philosophy is that each child can and should learn something new each day.  I have an OPEN DOOR policy. Please feel free to come and visit any time.  Please just stop in at the office to sign in.

Danay05

Mrs. Danay

Family: Mr. Danay is with the State of Illinois. We have three sons who are working and/or attending college. Two of them are out on their own.

Education: I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Augustana College where I also earned my teaching credential. I have done graduate work in Reading and Early Childhood. I have been teaching for over 16 years.

Hobbies: I love spending time with my family; we enjoy fishing together in Minnesota. My husband and I love to travel, especially to Hawaii. I also like to swim and garden. Summer is my favorite time of the year. I take pleasure in searching the Internet for new and fun activities to use in school. Reading how-to books and magazines is a favorite pass time, too.

Reading: My favorite children’s books are Charlotte’s Web and Dear Mr. Henshaw. I enjoy many picture books, too. I love to look for books that children will be excited to listen to or read for themselves.

Ms. DeBruyckere

Hello! My name is Julie DeBruyckere and I have been teaching here in this district for 16 years. I have taught both First and Second Grade over the years. This year I moved from 1st to 2nd again and I am thrilled to have many of my same students again.

I enjoy working with this age group because they are eager to learn and they like school! It is rewarding when the children start to understand something and to see how they develop as lifelong learners. I believe all children can learn and should feel good about themselves as students no matter what level they are at.

I have been working on my Masters Degree in Education at Saint Ambrose University this past year and a half and will graduate in May. I will be incorporating many of the things I have been learning with my students this fall as I work on my Teaching

Portfolio. It has been a lot of work, but I am learning a lot about myself and ways to improve my teaching.
When I am not teaching I like spending time with my family and friends, going to movies or watching sports (sometimes the Cubs or Bears)!

DeLaRosa06

Mrs. DeLaRosa

There have been quite a few changes in my classroom for 2006. I have a new name and am teaching a new subject. I got married over the summer and my name has changed from Ms. Goebel to Mrs. DeLaRosa. Along with the name change, I have also had a change in teaching assignments. After two years of teaching language arts, I am now teaching 5-7 math. Math has always been my passion and I can’t wait to pass that on to the students. Along with teaching, I also coach volleyball and softball at United Township High School. I enjoy playing sports and encourage students to get involved too. I am looking forward to a great school year in the middle school.

Mrs. Detmer

I’m Mrs. Detmer and I teach 2nd and 3rd grade this year. I have a strong background in teaching reading and the students will tell you how much I love books. I believe children who become good readers will be more confident and able to learn anything they want. One of the mottos of my classroom is, the more you learn, the more you can do. I’ve learned through teaching that all children learn in their own way, and blossom in their own way. I believe it is the job of schools to guide all children through the possible pathways best for them.

I started teaching in Indiana, where I had gone to college. Then I moved home to New York where I taught first grade. I moved to Iowa with my husband and taught in Sioux City. That’s where our twin sons were born. When they were 3 we moved to Moline. I started teaching in Carbon Cliff a couple of years later. I have loved the small, family atmosphere of this school district.

Family has been my inspiration throughout life. My father was a teacher and always made it fun. The other inspiration has been my mother-in-law. Grandma Detmer is amazing. I have never heard her say anything negative about anyone. She always finds a kind way to put things. (She also makes great cookies and pies.)

DeWitte05

Ms. DeWitte

Hello! My name is Tammy DeWitte and I am one of Eagle Ridge’s physical education teachers.  I am on my tenth year of teaching at this school and have actually had the opportunity of watching my first kindergarten class graduate eighth grade. I received my bachelors degree from St. Ambrose and my Master’s from St. Xavier. Along with being a teacher at this school, I am the eighth grade girl’s volleyball coach. I have been coaching volleyball for five years now and see myself doing this for many more. I also am an assistant softball coach at UTHS.

I love watching and participating in sports and still have no means of slowing down.

Mrs. Douglas

Welcome! My name is Tracie Douglas. I have been a teacher for 4 years. This is my third year teaching kindergarten at Eagle Ridge School.  I attended Illinois State University where I received a bachelor’s degree, and look forward to pursuing my master’s degree in the future.

Teaching kindergarten has been a very rewarding experience for me. The daily hugs and smiles I get from my students are by far the best! I truly enjoy teaching and watching the enthusiasm the kids bring to learning! I’m looking forward to another great year at Eagle Ridge!

When I am not in my classroom teaching I love boating, reading, shopping, hiking, watching NASCAR and football, and spending time with family and friends. I’ve hiked to the top of the Grand Canyon (though I am not sure I would do it again) and I would like to someday visit Alaska. I live in Colona with my wonderful husband and our two cats, Ashley and Molly.

Downing05

Mrs. Downing

Hello! My name is Carole Downing and this is my eleventh year of teaching elementary children. During these years I have worked with kindergarten through third grade students. Teaching is a popular profession in my family! I have a brother, sister, nephew and several nieces who have chosen teaching as their life’s work. I have enjoyed the challenge of teaching a diverse group of children with many talents as well as many needs. My belief is that every one of my students will experience success if only I can find the method in which he or she learns best.

Summer vacation and other spare time is spent working at the campground that my husband, John, and I have owned for ten years. We enjoy meeting people that come to stay with us from all over this country and many foreign ones, too. My hobbies include reading, traveling, and spending time with our three daughters and our grandsons.

My oldest daughter, Jennifer lives in Wisconsin with her husband and sons, Zach, Alex and Matthew. She is a medical technician at a large clinic. Our middle daughter, Alison works as a medical photographer for several ophthalmologists in St. Louis, Missouri. Our youngest daughter, Cari is a junior at Western Illinois University majoring in Musical Theatre.

My life is never dull and I enjoy staying busy!
